Nar Phu to Upper Mustang Trek via Teri-La Pass Overview
Nar Phu to Upper Mustang Trek via Teri-La Pass is an immense adventurous trip that takes you to two of the most remote and restricted regions of Nepal i.e. the Nar Phu Valley and the forbidden Kingdom of Lo or Upper Mustang.
This exotic 25-day expedition is designed for those seeking wilderness experience in the trans-Himalayas of Nepal. This exhilarating trek begins by approaching the remote fortified Tibetan villages in the Nar Phu Valley, located on the eastern side of the Annapurna Circuit. You further proceed on an exploratory trek to the Mustang region via an old salt trade route over a remote high pass between the two regions namely Teri-La Pass (5,595m).
Nar Phu Valley was still unexplored a few years back. Therefore, the region has a smaller presence of trekkers in this region. Phu is an interesting fortified village perched on a hill at the intersection of many glacial valleys. It is backed by high Himalayan peaks. Likewise, Nar is an interesting and bustling village of slightly more modern ‘Bhotias’, or Nepali Tibetans. In comparison, both the places are equally stunning and beautiful.
The trek through the Kingdom of Lo along the Kali Gandaki, the deepest river gorge in the world is a timeless and breathtaking journey. We take the most remote routes and venture deep into the land of the last nomads of Mustang (perhaps Nepal). En route, you will also visit some quaint and encounter beautiful but remotely located villages like Yakpa, Tange, and Yara along with the renowned Luri and Tashi Kabum cave Gompas. Apart from that, the ever towering snowy peaks are a very attractive sight to see. It looks like a thumb pointing towards the Tibetan plateau.
Your journey follows along some of the lesser-known routes to the more isolated villages in this sun-drenched region. It often takes the rocky bed of the Kali Gandaki River. And at other times, hike the fantastic trails atop Kali Gandaki. Finally, descending through beautifully sculpted and multi-colored gorges.
