Khopra Danda Trek Route and Itinerary
We start the journey from Kathmandu. We then either drive or fly to Pokhara. From here, we start to move to Kimche via a scenic drive. Then start the trek to Tadapani via Ghandruk, the biggest Gurung village.
We travel via dirt roads, cross suspension bridges, settlements of communities of Brahmins and Chettris, and cross a lot of rivers. On your way from Tadapani to Dobato, you cross the woods of rhododendron and oak. The path is filled with the cacophony of waterfalls and chirping birds.
Next, we continue the adventure to Shistibum and Bayli Kharka. And make way to the Khopra ridge trek. We can observe intensive farming in the highlands. Next, we will have an option to either trek through Ghorepani or Jomson. But the decision must be made before the trek.
Best Season for Khopra Danda Trek
Falling in the Annapurna region, the best seasons for the Khopra Danda Trek are autumn, followed by spring. Can we trek Khopra Danda in Winter? Yes, we can, but we could face a few more challenges than in spring and autumn.
The season to avoid trekking the Khopra Danda is the summer/monsoon. The trails become tedious and bothersome. We face a slippery, muddy pathway while trekking in the monsoon. Also, the region becomes infested with insects and leeches. Land is at risk of landslides.
Trekking during autumn offers the best view of the mountains. Khopra Danda trek during the fall has a crystal clear view of the peaks and sky. Additionally, autumn is the time of Nepal’s biggest festivals, Dashain and Tihar. They add a cultural flavor to this trek.
Spring is the season when new life blooms in Nepal. Our treks are covered in new colors from the wildflowers and rhododendrons. It’s the best season to experience nature’s beauty in Nepal.
If you intend to trek the Khopra Danda during winter, we suggest trekking in December. As it’s early winter, the temperature doesn’t fall to extremes. It’s best recommended for experienced trekkers wishing for a solitary journey in the Himalayas.
Khopra Danda Trek Difficulty
Khopra Danda Trek difficulty is moderate to difficult. Another big question is, can beginner trekkers do the Khopra Danda Trek? Yes, newer trekkers can take up this trek. However, we recommend taking Khopra Danda as a second or even third trip in the Himalayas.
Due to the lower altitude of the Khopra Danda trek, the journey is considered moderate despite long walking hours. The max elevation reaches 3,660 m at the Khopra Ridge, so we face only slight chances of mountain sickness.
If you want a more challenging trek in the Khopra Danda area, try taking on the Khayar Lake Khopra Danda Trek. We travel further and higher during the Khayar Lake journey. Making it a more advanced trekking option in Khopra Danda.

In the trail of Khopra Danda, you will be served local and a few continental foods. The most popular meal is the authentic Nepali meal, Dal Bhat set (rice, seasonal vegetables, lentils, and pickle).
Besides this, you can also enjoy garlic soup, French Fries, Tibetan bread, eggs/omelet, Pasta, Momo (stuffed dumplings), Thukpa (noodle soup), Chowmein (fried noodles), pancake, and more. Drinking Water During Khopra Danda
Water is important in daily life, more so during treks in the Himalayas. Finding drinking water in this trek isn’t hard. You can expect spring water that you can treat.
Spring waters have many contaminants. You’d need to filter or use an iodine tablet, or UV treat it before drinking.
The second option is refilling your bottle in tea houses. They boil and filter drinking water, as such, making it 100% contamiant free. The house usually charges a small fee per liter.
The last option is buying bottled water at the small stores on the trail. The prices for the bottle remain reasonable.
