Khayar Lake Khopra Danda Trek Overview

The Holy Khayer Lake is a sacred lake located at an altitude of 4500m in the heart of the Annapurna region of western Nepal. Legend has it that praying and offering at the lake gives women fertility. Hence, making it popular with Hindu and Buddhist followers.

Our trek to Khayer Lake takes us to the wild and remote Kopra Ridge, one of the most spectacular viewpoints in the Himalayas.

Khayar Lake Khopra Danda Trek

The starting point of the hike is from Lumle, then follow the famous Annapurna Base Camp trail, and next, after Tadapani, we leave this popular trekking trail to venture into the unexplored parts of the Annapurna region. We begin the gradual ascent in the alpine terrain to Bayeli and finally descend to Khopra.

We can enjoy majestic views of the mountains, including those of Nilgiris, Annapurna I, Fang, and Annapurna South. The eighth-highest mountain, Dhaulagiri, is seen across the Kali Gandaki gorge, dominating the western horizon.

Our return route descends through open alpine pastures, oak and rhododendron forests to Swanta.

Khayar Lake Route and Itinerary

Often regarded as an off-the-beaten-path (less traveled), you can explore the fascinating natural beauty, walk through dense isolated forests of rhododendron, oak, and pine, Gurung and Magar settlements, and encounter the rich flora and fauna of the region.

We start our journey from Kathmandu and move to Pokhara the following day. You then move to Nayapul via a beautiful drive. Then on the same day, we trek to Ghandruk. The next day, we move to Tadapani through Bheri Kharaa.

Our next stop will be Dobato. We then move to Shistibumg, and then we make it to Kopra Ridge. We drop to Swanta, then we climb up to Ghorepani. After this, we start our return from this trek as we rest in Tikhedhunga or Hile.

Although not all the places might have all the modern facilities, we will make sure to arrange safe and comfortable accommodation. In general, hygienic and safe tea houses/local lodges/ home-stays with all the basic facilities are arranged. But you can, if possible, personalize according to your preference.

Meals

Breakfast is usually included with your B&B Accommodation within the cost that is evident.
For other meals in the city, you would have to pay separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. Moreover, almost all the meals during the trek are included in the cost. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available.

On top of that, Himalayan Trekkers also organizes a Welcome or Farewell Dinner as a symbol of warm greetings.

Please go through the detailed itinerary for more information. We are always there to help you travel to your heart’s content.

Drinking Water the Trek

Water is important in daily life, more so during treks in the Himalayas. Finding drinking water in this trek isn’t hard. You can expect spring water that you can treat.

Spring waters have many contaminants. You’d need to filter or use an iodine tablet, or UV treat it before drinking.

The second option is refilling your bottle in tea houses. They boil and filter drinking water, as such, making it 100% contamiant free. The house usually charges a small fee per liter.

The last option is buying bottled water at the small stores on the trail. The prices for the bottle remain reasonable.
