The Himalayas in itself are impressive enough to have attracted worldwide attention and curiosity since the beginning of the 20th century but Mount Everest has always been its crown prince and star player. Brave souls like Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay have accentuated its fame after conquering its peak. So, the Everest Base Camp has been the most desirable destination for tourists and trekkers alike since it allows everyday people to witness the tallest structure on Earth from close proximity.

Everest Base Camp Trek - a 14 Days trek is a perfect timeframe to reach the Base Camp of Everest. Lying at the Solukhumbu district of Khumbu region within the Sagarmatha National Park, this trek is the most popular trekking amongst trekkers due to the sheer popularity of Mt. Everest itself. The trek is an awe-inspiring experience to view Mt. Everest from an optimally preferred distance and has quite an extraordinary feeling. Kala Patthar (black rock) is at an elevation of 5545 meters & the most famous vantage point to view the gigantic Everest and relish it's empowering glory.

Though Mt. Everest would be most alluring aspect for this trek, none the less, other famous peaks like Mt. Ama Dablam, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. Lobuche, Mt Tawache, etc that also rise high touching the skies in the vicinity, could be extra treat to your eyes. Tengboche monastery is another vantage point for up-close of views of other mountains of the Everest region. Namche Bazzar is also quite famous and is the gateway to the Everest.

A strong presence of Buddhism can be felt in most of the places on your trek route. With the colorful prayer flags dancing due to the flow of gentle and mild winds (starting from Lukla), stupas, monasteries, mani stones on the trekking trails reflect the presence of strong culture within this reason.

The terrain is also quite unique surrounded by alpine forests, a 100% Sherpa village with Sherpas and their simplicity within this harsh environment of mother nature are some noticeable features of Everest Base Camp.

Trek Highlights

  • Flight to & from Lukla with a birds-eye view of the beautiful mountainous terrain.
  • Mountainous view of the eight-thousanders including mighty Everest.
  • Familiarize with the culture of local Sherpa people.
  • Spend the day at Namche Bazaar, a village situated at the highest altitude with very good facilities.

On your 14 days of trek to the EBC, you first take a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, then trek to Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and, Lobuche. From Lobuche, you finally trek to our dream destination - the Everest Base Camp. You then ascend further to Kala Patthar passing through Gorakshep. Gorakshep is the first Base Camp of Everest. As of now, there are alternative routes to reach the base camp. From Gorakshep, you trek to Pheriche and from there you take back the same route to Namche Bazaar and finally to Lukla. Your trek ends at Lukla and you take a flight back to Kathmandu.

The astonishing view of Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholhatse, Pumori and many other snow-peaks will always follow you throughout your trekking. You will see glaciers, icy trek routes, white-water rivers, suspension bridges, and many other stupendous attractions of nature while you trek.

All in all, trekking to the base camp is a journey that creates an irreplaceable bank of memories and self-realization. If you haven’t yet thought of trekking through this unbelievably gorgeous route then adding that to the bucket list is definitely a priority :)

Trip FAQ's

FAQ's

What is the best season for this trek?

Spring (March-May) and Fall (mid-September to October) - both the seasons are really fine to relish the beauty of the trek. While Spring is mostly preferred for Expeditions, trekkers prefer Fall.

What is the level of fitness required?

Trek to the EBC requires lots of walking, like around 5-6 hrs a day. We strongly recommend you to do some physical exercise (activities such as walking, running, swimming or hiking of some kind) to be physically fit at least a couple of months before your trek starting date.

What would be my personal expenses besides the quoted price?

Personal expenses totally depend upon your shopping habits. Accommodation, meals, city tours & all ground and air transport are inclusive in the price as mentioned in the itinerary. You are only liable to pay for additional meals, table drinks, snacks, hot shower (accessible in some places), alcoholic drinks, & meals in the city. Tips to the guides, porter or any other members are not mandatory. You can tip them if you are satisfied with their service.

Do I require any insurance for this trek?

Yes, insurance is mandatory for any trek and tours with Himalayan Trekkers. For this trek, please make sure the policy covers up to an altitude of 5500 m. Additionally, the package should also cover for loss/theft of baggage or equipment.

What about drinking water?

Springwater or normal drinking water is provided free of cost but we suggest you carry water purification pills to purify the water. If you prefer to drink bottled water, you can purchase it in local shops, but the expense is not included in our price.

Is it possible to add an extra day in the middle of the trek?

Yes if feasible, you can add an extra day or two consulting the trek leader if it's your own private departure.

What are the possible chances to get attacked by Acute mountain sickness?

If well prepared and physically fit it's not that likely. Carelessness, non-hygienic food, dehydration, stress and lack of proper guidance are some of the major factors to AMS. With Himalayan Trekkers, we take care of your well being – so you need not worry about it.

What are the documents required to be submitted before starting EBC trek?

After the trek confirmation, all we require from you is a digital copy of your valid passport, a passport size photograph and also a confirmation of airline ticket when done.

Is there any age limit for Everest Base Camp?

No, not really. Actually, age is not that of a concern but the fitness level of a person is all that matters.

How does Himalayan Trekkers deal with an emergency situation?

Your safety is our topmost priority and we make sure that you are sound on every step. If by chance anyone gets sick, we will take you to the nearest hospital asap. If the condition is more critical – a rescue helicopter is called & the expenses are covered by the insurance company.

Trek to EBC

The trek goes through some breathtaking vistas. And in November most of the days were sunny, but tends to be cold and breezy early in the day and late in the evening. Madan my guide was excellent and very helpful. He knows the area very well. Raj Dhamala has always been very quick to respond to your question and concern. On the whole my experience with them has been excellent and I would recommend them highly.

Trek to EBC

Our tour operator was Adventure Mission Nepal. The owner Raj is a very kind & accommodating person. He had everything in place when we got to Kathmandu. On arrival, Raj met us at the hotel & briefed us on the expedition since we had to take a 4-hour drive to Ramechap to get a flight to Lukla. The guide put in charge of us is well experienced. It was a 14-day tour & the itinerary was well planned with 2 days inbuilt for acclimation. The tour company helped us to purchase all the gear needed for the trek from Kathmandu.

We were given clean good places for accommodation & the food was excellent. The porter was also a very nice chap. All in all, it was an awesome experience. Thank you, Raj for everything, your kindness & the advice & support.
