We head towards the Kathmandu Durbar Square and Bhaktapur Durbar Square today. A walk from Kathmandu Durbar Square to Thamel is interesting as it goes through the oldest settlement of the Kathmandu valley and has the local market with clothing’s, spices and groceries, etc. After going through these old palace areas we head towards the hill station of Nagarkot for Sunset view.
Kathmandu Durbar Square - Kathmandu Durbar Square lies in the center of the Kathmandu valley and has some of the most interesting monuments in Nepal. The Kasthamandap, the building from which Kathmandu derived its name, the Kumari Ghar, the House of the Living goddess Kumari, the Taleju temple and the most interesting the Hanuman Dhoka Palace, now a museum are some of the interesting buildings in Kathmandu Durbar Square. Besides that, the program of different kinds and gathering of people from all over Nepal makes it a lively place and the best place to understand Nepal.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square - Bhaktapur is on the eastern side of the Kathmandu city and is also referred to as the city of Devotees and the fact is justified by hundreds of temples in the area. The home to the vibrant Newari culture, this is also the city of festivals. The 55 windows palace, the tallest pagoda in Nepal, the Pottery square and the museums in Bhaktapur has made it the best palace area in Nepal and also a must-visit place in Nepal when you are here. The entrance fee 15 USD is a bit on the higher side but once you go to the Bhaktapur Durbar Square you will be happy with the price you have paid.
Nagarkot - Nagarkot is situated at 2100m from sea level and is famous for the sunset and sunrise view. It is 32 km away from Kathmandu city and is a one-night destination for hikers and trekkers as well as people who love to see mountains from distance, from the hotel room or with a beer or coffee in hand. The drive is also very interesting as it winds through the swirling road from Bhaktapur. You can see the Langtang Lirung, Annapurna 2nd, Ganesh Himal range and also Everest on a very clear day.
