Rob Hall, or Robert Edwin Hall, was born on 14 January 1961 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Moreover, Rob grew up in the Southern Alps. Even in his early life, Hall summited many mountain ranges in the southern region of New Zealand.

Rob Hall earned two of the most prestigious awards. Hall earned the New Zealand Bravery Star (NZBS). Rob also had earned the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

Sharing a common passion, the two people bonded. As such, when Hall met Gary Ball in 1989, the duo grew close. With a passion for mountaineering, they became partners of the Adventure Consultants. In 1991, these close friends founded Hall and Ball Adventure Consultants.

Rob and Gary climbed the Seven Summits together. Furthermore, they ascended all in seven months. After completing such a feat, Hall and Ball decided that they didn’t want to be professional climbers. Instead, they founded their company, Adventure Consultants.

Ball passed away after suffering high-altitude pulmonary edema, or HAPE. Gary passed on October 6, 1993, while climbing Dhaulagiri. Rob Hall buried his close friend in a crevasse on Dhaulagiri. Later, in 2004, a new expedition team found Ball’s body.

• Overcrowding on the Mountain:

• John Taske:

John was a former army officer, a doctor, and an Australian client who survived the tragic event. Taske turned back before reaching the summit with Lou Kasischke and Stuart Hutchison.

• Helen Wilton:

Helen was a member of Adventure Consultants and the Base Camp manager from New Zealand. She survived the 1996 Everest Disaster by staying at the base camp. The rescue effort would not have run if Hele hadn’t been there.
