Sunkoshi River Rafting Overview
Sunkoshi River is a part of the Sapta Koshi river system, a group of seven big rivers in the eastern region of Nepal. Literally, Sun Koshi means “River of Gold”.
The eastward flow of the Sunkoshi passes through the beautiful valley between the Mahabharat range and the Himalayas. The originating point of Sunkoshi is Tibet - the autonomous region of China. It gets its big shape when Bhote Koshi joins it at Barbesi.
Sunkoshi river rafting begins from the Dolalghat. However, our trip is possible from Dumjabesi because of the Banepa Bardibas highway. You can experience the different grades of water rapids, exciting and huge challenges as you progress ahead.
While rafting, you cannot see any towns or roads but just the rhythm of water and the stunning views of the often seen villages and huge mountains with lush vegetation. You can feel the hospitality of the people while you are rafting as they say “Namaste” and goodbye by waving their hands.
On the way, all along you can see the sandy beaches for camping and resting. While you come down to the lower fraction of the river, you may witness some monkeys and beautiful birds as the forest are really dense here.
One of the significances of Sunkoshi River Rafting is that the journey will start from an easy point and gradually goes on increasing level of difficulty. It is progressively harder when you descend but will provide time to learn rafting skills, especially for the beginners. It will provide you an interesting experience when you continue rafting rapids lower down the river.
