Paro Phuentsholing Tour Overview

Paro Phuentsholing Tour could is the perfect popular trip to observe the preserved culture and tradition along with its diverse landscape of the Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan. Phuentsholing is a bordering town near the Bhutan-India border.

The 6 nights 7 days Paro to Phuentsholing Tour offers travelers the opportunity to experience its amazing mountainous topography, distinctive architecture, unique religious festivals, and delightful hospitality of the locals. This is a relatively short and easy journey. 

The journey starts from Paro with an exciting hike to the popular Taktsang Monastery (Tigers' Nest Monastery) which is also the hight point in the trek. The trip also traverses through the capital-Thimpu, former capital-Punakha. We also stop in one of the famous Dochu La Pass (3,100 m) for some refreshment. 

Our 5th-day covers Gangtey, a beautiful settlement with white mountains and green hills, and pay a visit to the fertility temple called Chimi Lhakhang and then finally to the Phuentsholing border.

Itinerary in Details

Day 1: Arrival in Paro & sightseeing

🕑 30 mins

Max Altitude: 2,200 m

Upon arrival at Paro Inernational Airport, a representative from Himalayan trekkers will greet and transfer you to the designated hotel in the city. 

After a brief rest and lunch, you will be guided for a short sightseeing tour in Paro. We will explore the National Museum, and Paro Dzong. In the evening stroll around the local handicraft market.

Day 2: Hike to Taktsang Monastery & drive to Thimpu

🕑 3-4 hrs hike & 2 hrs drive

Max Altitude: 3,120 m

Today, after breakfast, we will hike to the popular Taktsang Monastery also known as Tigers' Nest Monastery hanging on a high cliff at 3,120 meters. Legends state that during the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava flew on the back of the tigress and meditated at the spot where the monastery now stands. 

After lunch, scenic drive to Thimpu, capital of Bhutan.

Day 3: Full-day Thimpu sightseeing

Max Altitude: 2,350 m

Soon after breakfast, you will be assisted to explore the King’s Memorial Chorten, Nunnery Temple, Changgangkha Monastery, Majestic Thimphu Dzong, etc.

In the afternoon, you may visit the market which is famous for different kinds of local products ranging from handicrafts to vegetables. If time permits, you can visit the radio tower on the hilltop to witness a panoramic view of the capital.

Day 4: Drive to Punakha and explore

Max Altitude: 1,200 m

Early morning breakfast and we leave the Timpu city and drive towards the former capital, Punakha. En route, we halt at the Dochu La Pass (3,100m) for some photographs and freshment. 

We will also pay a visit to the fertility temple called Chimi Lhakhang. Once we are in Punakha, we will have lunch and visit the Punakha Dzong.

Day 5: Drive to Gangtey, explore & return to Punakha

🕑 4-5 hrs

Max Altitude: 3,000 m

We will start the day with a visit to Wangduephodrang town to see the stone carvings. Our destination today is Gangtey a beautiful settlement with the White Mountains and green hills around it. After spending some time at the Gangtey we take a short walk in the Phobjikha village and drive back to Punakha.

Day 6: Scenic drive to Phuentsholing

Max Altitude: 293 m

Today we have a long and scenic drive to the town of Phuntsholing, a bordering town near the Bhutan-India Border.

The drive goes past hilly road for 234 km and on the way, we will make a few stops for lunch, photograph and in the required condition.

Day 7: Departure

As it is the final day of the trip, you can depart from the western border to your further journey towards India and Nepal or you can drive back towards Paro for next day flight.

All meals in Bhutan are included within the evident cost. However, if you want to eat your meals other than at your hotel or local restaurant, you will have to pay the additional amount.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!
