Nepal Tibet Overland Tour with EBC(fly-in/drive out) begins in Kathmandu and after spending a couple of nights in this land of excellent architecture, we will fly to Tibet through the Himalayas. The highest peaks in the world seem closer than ever on this flight. After spending 3 days in Lhasa, we will drive towards the Nepalese border passing through the beautiful Tibetan towns such as Shigatse, Gyantse, Rongbuk, and then to Kyarong before heading towards Kathmandu. The drive is a great experience in itself as you can enjoy the view of great mountains such as Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu, Xisapangma, and other smaller peaks. The tour comes to an end after visiting some more interesting places in and around Kathmandu.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)
30 min private drive.

A representative from Himalayan trekkers with your nameplate will be waiting for you at the airport. After meeting, greeting and welcoming, you will be transferred to the hotel.

In case of early arrival sightseeing to Pashupatinath temple area and Bouddhanath stupa area. Otherwise, stroll around Thamel and rest in the hotel.

Day 2: Full-Day Sightseeing of Kathmandu
1 Hour

After breakfast, we have a full day sightseeing of the Kathmandu valley including 4 of the UNESCO World Heritage SIte: Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, Kathmandu Durbar Square, and Swoyambhunath Stupa.

Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Fly to Lhasa (3,650m)
1 hour+ flight and 1/2 hour drive

After early breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for a scenic flight to Gongar airport and transferred to Lhasa where a Tibetan representative of Himalayan trekkers will be there in the Gongar airport.

Free to explore the local markets and streets in the evening.

Day 4: Full-day Lhasa Sightseeing
1 Hour

Your guided sightseeing begins from the Potala Palace which was the winter palace of the Dalai Lamas from 1649 to 1959. It is one of the holiest complexes of Tibetan Buddhism and also the highest palace on the globe. 

Then, we will move to Jokhang Temple, the holiest Buddhist temple in Tibet which hoses a life-sized image of Lord Buddha. It was built in the 7th century at the center of the old Lhasa town surrounded by Barkhor Street, an ancient round street. 

After exploring the temple, we will take around at the must-see Barkhor Street that offers the original outlook of Lhasa.

Day 5: Lhasa Tour day 2

Today we will visit Norbulingka Palace, the summer residence of the Dalai Lamas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site palace has a complex different from most of the monasteries in Tibet. 

We will also visit the popular Drepung Monastery, the most significant monastery in Tibetan history, It is one of the three great Gelug monasteries along with Sera and Ganden monasteries. 

The last sightseeing spot will be Sera Monastery, one of the most beautiful monastery complexes. It was the second-largest monastery in the world which resided more than 9,000 monks. 

Another beautiful night in the city.

Day 6: Drive to Gyantse (3,950m)
6-7 hrs drive

We will have an exciting drive to Gyantse as we drive past the Khamba La pass (4794 m), Yamdrok Tso Lake, Karo La pass (5045m), and many Himalayan peaks from the road. By the late afternoon, we will reach the Tibetan settlement of Gyantse and take a walk around it.

Day 7: Drive to Shigatse ((3,900m)
2-3 hrs drive

After breakfast, we will visit the Gyantse Dzong, which dates back to the 14th century and overlooks the Gyantse area. We will visit the famous Pelkor Monastery which includes the Gyantse Kumbum. Considered as the largest of the three Kumbums in Tibet, it has nine floors with unique chapels. 

After the morning sightseeing, we take a drive to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet.  After arriving in Shigatse, we will visit the Tashilumpo monastery.

Day 8: Drive to Shegar (4,040m)
6-7 hrs drive

A scenic drive from Shigatse along the Friendship highway takes us to Shegar today. The drive is full of beautiful scenery. We will drive past the settlement of Lhatse and also drive past the Gyamtso La pass. A brief stop at Natang Monastery is a must. Driving further ahead, we will stop at the Shakya monastery with the biggest gold book in the world.

Day 9: Scenic drive to Rongbuk Monastery
2-3 hrs drive

After breakfast, we will start driving towards the Rongbuk Monastery. 

In the evening time, you can interact with locals and also observe the evening prayers. Be prepared for the excursion to the highlight of the trip ''Everest Base Camp on the Tibetan side''.

Day 10: Explore the Everest Base Camp (Tibetan side)
7-8 hrs

We will hike from Rongbuk Monastery to reach the northern base camp of the highest peak Mount Everest, Qomolangma in Tibetan. We will explore the area, take pictures of the highest peak, visit the Ronghu Glacier, and return to Rongbuk before sunset.

Day 11: Scenic drive to Kayrong
5-6 hrs drive

After enjoying the scenic mountainous view with delicious breakfast, we will further drive to Kayrong.

Kayrong is the border area of China-Nepal.

Day 12: Scenic drive to Kathmandu
7-8 hrs drive

After enjoying a good breakfast, we will drive to the border, complete the immigration formalities and enjoy the scenic drive back to Kathmandu.

You can visit the cultural heritage sites, go for a day hike or be part of other interesting activities.

After breakfast, a representative of Himalayan trekkers will assist and transfer you to the airport 3 hours earlier than your scheduled flight back to your onward destination.

Generally, in cities like Kathmandu, Lhasa, and Gyantse, we arrange basic three-star facilities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra. 

Although all the places might not have all the modern facilities, we will make sure to arrange safe and comfortable accommodation. In general, hygienic and safe tea houses/local lodges/ home-stays with all the basic facilities are arranged. But you can, if possible, personalize according to your preference. 

Meals

Breakfast is usually included with your B&B Accommodation within the cost that is evident.

For other meals in the cities, you would have to pay separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place to fit your taste.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. Moreover, almost all the meals during the trek are included in the cost. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!

On top of that, Himalayan Trekkers also organizes Welcome or Farewell Dinners as a symbol of warm greetings.
