Tibet is much of unexplored land and if you wish to run far away from the maddening crowd, you should visit this place. This is a high altitude tour that will take you through a great number of amazing places in Tibet. You will be visiting the Everest Base camp at 5,2000m followed by a visit to the exotic Namtso Lake at 4718m. The journey will take you through some of the most rugged terrains in the world and open you to some of the most brilliant natural features laid down on earth.

Since this is a high altitude tour there are chances that you may require artificial oxygen supply. However, it is not a problem because there is a 24/7 helpline dedicated to helping out those in need. You can also move on to other Chinese provinces from here and we can make all the arrangements for you. Itinerary

Arrival on: Lhasa

Departure from: Lhasa

Day 1

Arrival at Lhasa.

Meals included: BB

You have to arrive at Lhasa through train or flight services and our trained guide will meet you there. The journey into Lhasa is along the banks of the Tsangpo River- the longest as well as the largest river of Tibet. Lhasa River will also fall on the way.

The first day will have you stay at Lhasa. This is very important as it helps you to get acclimatized to such extreme conditions. Make sure that you do not rush to places over here and take things slowly; otherwise, the sparse atmosphere and low oxygen will take a toll on your body. If you want you can visit the Potala Square where you get a taste of the flavor of Lhasa.

For the night, have a comfortable sleep here in Lhasa.

Day 2

Lhasa sightseeing: Potala Palace and Jokhang temple.

Potala Palace was built by the 33rd great king of Tibet back in the 7th Century AD. This place is the winter home to the Dalai Lama since that time. You will find ancient burial stupas for the Dalai Lama in this place. You can also see the exclusive meditation cave that the 33rd king used in ancient times.

The morning will be spent at the Potala Palace and after a hearty lunch, we will go on to Jokhang Temple. This building was also founded by the 33rd king in the 7th century and houses a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at 12 years of age. There are provisions to go on a holy circle (kora) around the temple with other pilgrims and locals that you can take part in. Plus, just have some quality time and drink some Tibetan tea alongside some scrumptious welcoming dinner.

Day 3

Sightseeing continue: Drepung and Sera monastery.

After a goodnight’s sleep, the third day will see you visiting two of the “great three” Gelug monasteries in Tibet. The first one is the Drepung Monastery which has the biggest monastery kitchen. It was founded in 1416 by Jamyangchoge, a disciple of Tsongkhapa. You can also participate in one of the Buddhist sculpture carving workshops that is a regular attraction near to this monastery.

The other monastery that you will be visiting later on that day is the Sera Monastery. You will greatly enjoy the monk’s debate which is a daily spectacle in this monastery between 3:00 to 5:00 PM every day.

Day 4

Scenic drive to Shigatse.

The drive to Shigatse commences early in the morning the next day. This is a lovely journey that will take you through some heavenly locations. The first of the many passes, the Gampala Pass at 4790m will fall en route and you will also get a glimpse of Yamdrok-Tso. You can see the highest mountain in Tibet towering around the lake at 7191m, the Holy Mount Nyenchen Khangsar.

The road will take you onwards into Gyangtse.- the third-largest Tibetan city after passing through Karola Glacier and Manak Dam Lake. A halt will be made at Gyangtse so that you can visit the Pelkor Monastery and Gyangtse Kumbum. After a one and a half-hour drive from Gyangtse, you will reach Shigatse which is the second-largest city after Lhasa. It has extensive barley fields and also a barley mill.

You will be spending the night at Shigatse.

Day 5

Scenic drive to Everest Base Camp (5200 m).

The 5th day of this tour is going to be an adrenaline-packed journey. The day will begin early with a visit to the Tashilunpo Monastery in Shigatse which is the home to Panchan Lama. After an excursion in this grand monastery, we will head to the city of Lhatse where Alien’s travel permit needs to be acquired to enter the EBC.

We will be traveling through many high mountain passes in the next leg of the journey such as the Tsola Pass at 4600m and the Gyatsola Pass at 5248m. a wide of the trans-Himalayan Range will welcome you through the Gawula Pass at 5918m once you have entered the Mt. Everest National Nature Reserve. The road becomes very adventurous with hairpin bends here onwards as we travel to the Everest Base camp at 5200m.

The night stay can also be a grand experience for you if you choose to live in a tent in the base camp area.

Day 6

Return drive to Shigatse.

The sunrise is a mystical view at such an elevation and you will have something to remember forever if you can see it. We leave early morning to go to the Rongbuk Monastery which is one of the highest monasteries and has a unique culture wherein monks and nuns live together. 

After journeying through the wide expanse of these mountainous regions it is time to start the drive back to Shigatse.

Day 7

Scenic drive back to Lhasa.

We will not take the same route to return back to Lhasa and take you through the charming Yalong Valley to give you a view of land laden with scenic beauty.

Day 8

Scenic drive to Namtso Lake.

Meals included: BB

Namtso is one of the four holy lakes in Tibet and the highest saltwater lake in the world. The journey to Namtso from Lhasa will take you through the picturesque Nyenchen Thanglha Mountain Range with snow-topped mountains and nomadic Tibetan tribals living along the slopes or the valley. The pristine and scenic view of the beautiful Namtso Lake is from the famous Lagen La, another high mountain pass situated at 5190m.

You can take on a pleasant trek to the lakeshore and walk alongside it and also around the Tashi Dor Island. You will be spending the night at Dumxung or Yampachen.

Day 9

Return back to Lhasa.

Yampachen has a wide 40 km2 geothermal bed that produces enough heat in one year as 4.7 million tons of coal. This is an exotic location at such a tremendous height and lots of cottages and homestays have crept up around the hot springs for the tourists to enjoy a relaxing bath. This is the main attraction in Yampachen and we will take the road back to Lhasa after some pleasant time in the springs. En route, we will stop at the Chimelon Nunnery from where you have an excellent view of a sky burial site.

Sky Burial is a traditional practice of Tibetans in which the deceased body is left out in the open for vultures to feed on them. According to Tibetan Buddhism, in this way, all the wishes of the deceased are taken to heaven.

Day 10

Departure.

The 10th day will see the end of this amazing tour through breathtaking landscapes. Our guide will drop you off at the station and part ways with you!

Generally, in cities like Lhasa and Xigaatse, we arrange basic three-star facilities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra. 

Although all the places might not have all the modern facilities, we will make sure to arrange safe and comfortable accommodation. In general, hygienic and safe tea houses/local lodges/ home-stays with all the basic facilities are arranged. But you can, if possible, personalize according to your preference. 

Meals

Breakfast is usually included with your B&B Accommodation within the cost that is evident.
For other meals in the city, you would have to pay separately. Often in the cities, you can choose from many different cuisines and varied food services. We can always help you find the right place to fit your taste.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. Moreover, almost all the meals during the trek are included in the cost. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!

On top of that, Himalayan Trekkers also organizes Welcome and Farewell Dinners as a symbol of warm greetings.
