Classic Nepal Mountain Bike Tour Overview

Nepal has always been an appealing destination due to its natural and cultural beauty but a diverse selection of expedition and adventure activities has contributed significantly to Nepal's global popularity. And mountain biking is one of them that provides a freeing sense of freedom in travel, allowing you to stop whenever you choose and avoiding crowded buses and claustrophobic cabs. Also, allows you to get off the beaten path and ride tracks and ancient walking trails to distant, seldom-visited parts of the nation.

The Classic Nepal Mountain Bike Tour lets you discover the colorful world of Nepal via the country's winding hill lowland roads, verdant habitat, and natural setting. Ideal for the riders searching for something less extreme than the high Himalayas, this 2 weeks round trip introduces you to the diverseness of Nepal in terms of geography, vegetation, and culture.

It is a very fun adventure experience since the landscape changes every mile or so which sometimes overwhelms your senses. Once you cycle your way through meadows that cover the land like green silk, and next you will encounter deep trenches, high climbs that cling tightly to your bike to overcome the turns, and curves to get on top, redefining your boundaries.

That's the effect this 14 days biking package has on you - you emerge and redefine your boundaries & your inhibitions.

Our Classic Nepal Mountain Bike Tour makes a round trip to Nepal that starts and finishes in the busy center, of Kathmandu. Open blue skies, green landscapes, snowy mountain backdrops, and attractive villages will pique your interest in cycling as soon as you leave Kathmandu. You get to experience the alpine vegetation of the Himalayan foothills and the tropical savanna climate of the lowlands Terai.

With all those rides, the bike path will be fascinating when riders will experience many steep climbs, descents, dirt roads, jeep trails, cobbled paths, suspension bridges, the path between forests, and many exciting trails.

The journey is not limited to adventure, but it also becomes a list of permanent memories of a lifetime in a nation with an abundance of ancient history, colorful culture and tradition, and first-class topography.

When to go for Classic Nepal Mountain Bike Tour?

Rides can be made all year except the monsoon season, from June to early September as the off-road tracks and steep trails can be wet and sloppy. However, spring (March to May) and fall (September to November) are considered to be the best seasons, when there is less or no rain and visibility is better. The beautiful sky and temperate temperatures make these months ideal for mountain biking tours. Experienced riders or those who seek thrills and are okay with the harsh cold of December, January, and February, can make rides in the winter. Even in December and January, days can be sunny and even warm anywhere up to around 3000 meters, while snow may be experienced as low as 2000 meters on occasion.

Day 3: Ride to Daman (3 Options Available)
Full Day
Max Altitude: 2300 M

Following a warm and hearty breakfast, your guide will be leading you and your fellow riders toward the beautiful settlement of Daman. Daman, without doubt, boasts the greatest view of the western Himalayan range in the country. From Mount Dhaulagiri in the west to Mount Everest in the east, all can be viewed perfectly from here on a clear day.  The snow-capped peaks of the world's tallest mountains rise above the hazy haze to beautify Daman's skyline. There are three routes to reach the beautiful village of Daman.

Option 1: The track goes past Chitlang, an ancient Newar settlement. You will pass through two settlements on the Chandragiri foothills, Bajrabarahi and Bisringkhel, and reach the village of Chitlang. Here in Chitlang, it joins the Tribhuwan Highway, and the ride to Palung and Daman is pleasant.

(Important Info: Chitlang is a historic Newari village with several small villages such as 'Taukhel,' 'Nhulgaun,' and ‘Kunchhal’, where a small number of Gopali people from the Gopala Dynasty, Nepal's first ruling dynasty, live in traditional rock houses with tile roofs. Their similar yet different Newari culture deserves to be experienced. Chitlang is also known for being the location of Nepal’s first organic goat cheese factory. It's also known for producing jojoba oil and trout farming.  )

Option 2: Our second option will be via Privthivi Highway. Exiting from Thankot, we ride towards Naubise which falls in the Dhading district. The high hills, small settlements, and the walking and working locals will company our ride. We stop for lunch at Naubise. After a short break here, we resume our riding journey towards Palung Village. Daman is nearly an hour's ride from the village.

Option 3: Pedal your bikes from Kathmandu to Bungamati, a typical Newari settlement and come across a suspension bridge over the Bagmati River. Then, the sealed Dakshinkali road will take you to several wonderful cultural monuments. From here, cycle along the gravel road to Kulekhani via Tamang hamlet on the graveled road. You can learn about the actual Nepalese way of life and explore Nepal's greatest hydropower and manmade lake. We continue through the hydro dam, to Markhu, and up to Daman, which takes approximately 2 hours up hills and where we will spend the night.

(Note: We can ride to Daman from Kulekhani directly through Markhu or via Chitlang.)

Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Standard Hotel in Daman

Day 4 of your journey and you will be offered the best views of the trip.

Small groups of buildings cling to lonely hilltops, but as you get closer to the Terai, you will see more and more villages.

As you approach this city at the foothills of the Churiya hills, you will notice a significant difference in weather and temperature.

We will take a detour onto a dirt road to Sauraha and, on the fringes of Chitwan National Park. We will visit the traditional Tharu communities deep in the woods and interact with the locals and learn about their lifestyle foods and culture. If you look closely, you will notice that there are four different species of trees tangled and prospering. For pilgrims, it is a significant emblem that embodies Buddhist philosophy.
