Apart from the World’s tallest mountains situated in Nepal, our country is also famous for nature lovers, who are seeking the chance to explore the large varieties of wildlife animals and birds. There are many national Park and Conservation Reserve to protect this wildlife. In a bird watching trip, we have included a few of the National Park and Conservation Center. Nepal is a homeland for about 900 species of birds. Thus, through this trip program, we try to take you to at least a few of the places for Bird Watching. You hike through the Shivapuri and Phulchowki hills, with the scenic view of the valley. The peaceful mountains with dense green forests with the presence of plenty of wildlife species will delight your heart with pleasure.

Shivapuri is the newest National Park around Kathmandu Valley. Phulchowki is the tallest hill around the valley. These two hills are very popular for hiking. 

Chitwan National Park is the first national park of Nepal. It lies in the Terai region of Nepal. It is a resident for many endangered wildlife like One-horned Rhino, four types of Deer species named as Spotted, Barking, Hog and Sambar Deer, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Wild Boars and reptiles such as Marsh Mugger, Genetic Gharial, and even Genetic dolphin. There is an Elephant Breeding Center and Genetic Gharial Breeding Center. You can do many other adventurous activities like Elephant safari, Jeep safari, Canoeing, etc. in Chitwan. Tharus are the locals residing in this region. Thus, you can visit the Tharu villages, see their lifestyle, food, culture, language, traditions. We have even included the Tharu dance in this trip package, as this traditional dance is very fun to watch and enjoy.

Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is another best place for Bird watching. It lies in the Eastern part of Nepal. You are taken on the boat to Sapta Koshi River (a river where five other rivers meet), by the bird specialist in this Conservation. You will see many rare species like Black Ibis, Honey Kites, Ospreys, Black Headed Orioles, Peregrine Falcon, Partridges, and Storks.

Itinerary in Details

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu

We welcome you to our beautiful country, Nepal. After collecting your luggage from the airport, you will be driven to your hotel. Free on your own to explore around the city. Overnight at a hotel.

Accommodation: 3 star hotel in KTM

Day 2: Day Hike & Bird Watching in Phulchowki

🕑 4-5 hrs

Max Altitude: 2,760 m

After breakfast, you are driven towards Phulchowki. It is the nearest place in Kathmandu valley, from where bird watching can be done. For your information, it is among the highest hills around Kathmandu Valley. Drive back to Kathmandu and overnight at the hotel.

Day 3: Day Hike & Bird Watching in Shivpuri National Park with Nagi Gompa.

Max Altitude: 2,730 m

Shivapuri National Park is the nearest National Park around Kathmandu valley. It will take you about 40 minutes' drive to reach there from your hotel. The highest ridge here is about 2523m. You have to get the entrance ticket before entering. This National Park is under the supervision of the Nepal Army. Shivapuri National Park is famous for Hiking because you get to see the beautiful dense forest, different species of birds, insects and butterflies, waterfalls and streams and probably the wild animals.
You commence your hike early morning so as to avoid the scorching heat. On the trail you will encounter many beautiful bird species like thrush, exotic sunbirds in red and yellow color with black stripes, woodpeckers, hoopoe, sparrows, Chestnut-bellied Nuthatch, Green-backed Tit, Black-colored Tit, Black-throated Tit, Himalayan Bulbul, Red-vented Bulbul, Ashy-throated Warbler, Warbler, Black-chinned Babbler, Nepal Fulveta, Fire-tailed Sunbird with some Himalayan brown eagles flying high above. We assure you that the chippering sound of these birds will make your hike even more enjoyable. You will also get to see large varieties of plants and trees.
After a certain walk, you will reach a Gompa about 50 years old, i.e. Nagi Gompa. This Gompa (monastery) is the Gompa with only female monks. Furthermore, if you walk passing this Gompa, you will reach the top of Shivapuri hill, where there is a Shrine of Lord Shiva with pilgrims. After spending certain time on top you hike back then drive towards your hotel. Stay overnight at a hotel.

Day 4: Scenic drive to Chitwan

After breakfast, you are driven towards Chitwan, passing through Trishuli River, crossing Mugling Bazaar, then downwards to the Tadi Bazaar.
You will be welcomed by the representative of the hotel. After checking-in and freshen-up, you are taken to visit the Tharu village in Chitwan.
The Tharu people reside mostly in the belt of the Terai region. Among them, they mostly reside in the Chitwan area. They have their own unique and distinct culture, tradition, lifestyle, food, language, etc. You will be traveling with a guide in order to understand better about the Tharu culture. You may walk or even ride on Tanga (a cart pulled by buffalo) to roam around the village.
After visiting the Tharu Village, you get back to the hotel for dinner and Folk Tharu Dance. You may join the dance group if you want to. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5: Full-day jungle activities with bird watching in Chitwan National Park

Chitwan is the oldest National Park, where you find the rare animals and birds along with the large varieties of plants and trees. Chitwan National Park is perfect for bird watching, as there are about 600 different species flying and settling in this National Park. Though the range of species found here is huge, few of the species you will get to see are named as Giant Hornbill, Paradise Flycatcher, Lesser Florican, Grey-crowned Prinia, Swamp Francolin, etc. Some birds like Maina, House Sparrow, Black Drongo Birds, and Crow can be commonly seen around the Chitwan area.
Apart from that, you also get to see animals like One-horned Rhino, Musk deer, Bengal Tiger, elephants, monkeys, crocodiles and alligators, and many other animals.
(Note: In Chitwan, Bird Watching can be done either from Sauraha or from Meghauli.)
After the bird watching and elephant safari, you are left on your own to relax.

Day 6: Continuing the jungle tour with bird watching

This morning followed by programs with jungle activities similar to Day 04 or vice versa, allowing you with more time to spend in this serene jungle surrounding with exotic birds and wildlife.

Day 7: Explore & involve in other activities in Chitwan National Park

Max Altitude: 415 m

After breakfast, you are taken for a jeep ride to visit the crocodile breeding center at Kasara village. It is located at the heart of Chitwan National Park. This breeding center especially focuses on saving the freshwater Gangetic Gharial (crocodile), which are almost about to extinct. This wildlife conservation center has been established with the help of donors like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Frankfurt Zoological. These reptiles are feed with fish and other aquatic vegetation.
After spending some time here, you are driven to go for a canoe ride in Rapti River. This is again a very different experience. But before that, it is lunchtime. After the canoe ride, you are driven back to the hotel. Tonight is your last night at Chitwan.

Day 8: Drive to Koshi Tappu Bird Sanctuary

Today after breakfast, you will be driven to Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve. The journey will be for about 6hours drive. Koshi Tappu is another famous spot for Bird watching situated in the Eastern part of Nepal. This place is perfect for all the nature lovers who are wanting to spend some time close to Mother Nature. This part is a piece of paradise on Earth. With the sole target of serving the need of birdwatchers around the world, the Conservation center has hired some bird specialists. Since the year 1987, this area has been recognized as a 'wetland site', where the wild buffalo (Nepali name- Arna) are also preserved.
How you view the birds is you cross the river by boat, gliding through the water to watch the birds. The best time to watch the birds is in the morning and in the evening. There are about 450 species of birds recognized so far in this Tappu.

Day 9: Full-Day Jungle Activities with Bird Watching Trip

The trip schedule is similar to Chitwan. After breakfast, the bird specialist takes you to River Sapta Koshi via boat. Sapta Koshi River is a river where seven rivers meet. In order to control the flow of these rivers, several dams have been built in this river.
Koshi Tappu conservation reserve is spread from Sunsari, Saptari to Udaypur districts. You enjoy the day watching the large varieties of bird species in this region. After that, you return back to your hotel and spend the rest of the day on your own.

Day 10: Bird Watching Day Trip in Koshi Tappu

You spend the day exploring more of this region. So far, 485 species of birds have been tracked here in this region. Some of the species are Dusky Eagle-owl, Black-headed cuckoo shrike, White-tailed Stonechat, Watercock, etc. After exploring another day here at Koshi Tappu, you are taken back to your hotel.

Day 11: Drive to Biratnagar & fly to Kathmandu

Day 12: Full-day Kathmandu sightseeing

From the peaceful and less crowded areas of Nepal, you have now come to the Capital city of the country, Kathmandu.
After breakfast, you will be taken for sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley. The sites are categorized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

After the sightseeing, you will be invited to a farewell dinner which will be enjoyed with the cultural program. Overnight at a hotel.

Day 13: Final Departure
