Australian Base Camp Trek Overview

Australian Base Camp Trek is located in the north-west of Pokhara. The mesmerizing view of the entire Annapurna range can be viewed from the Australian Base Camp.

One of the key elements for its popularity is accessibility. The Australian Base Camp trek isn’t a hard journey. As such, most new trekkers can take it up for their adventure in the Himalayas.

Why Choose Australian Base Camp Trek?

This package has an added route to the Dhampus Sarangkot Trek. It is an easy alternative to those who want to enjoy the breathtaking view of the snow-capped mountains. If you want to join a family-friendly trek in Nepal, try the Annapurna's Australian Base Camp.

The Annapurna range allows you to see a closer view of other Peaks. They include all the major giants in Nepal (Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Annapurna South, Dhaulagiri, Machhapuchhre, Himchuli, Manaslu, and Lamjung Himal).

Dhampus is situated at an altitude of 1650m above sea level. This village has the walls carved from stone and a roof covered with slats. You can explore the Gurung culture, tradition, food, clothing, and lifestyle.

The hypnotic view of the Pokhara valley from the Dhampus will make you speechless. But it is slowly modernizing. Sarangkot (1600m) is famous for its sunrise and sunset views for nature lovers, and popular for paragliding for all adventure lovers.

Australian Base Camp Trek Itinerary

On this Australian Base Camp Trek, we follow an 8-day itinerary. The journey begins in Kathmandu and includes a little tour around the capital. We then move towards Pokhara either by flight or by road.

We then drive to Kande and begin our Pokhara to Australian Camp Trek. After the Australian Base Camp, our next section is the Dhampus village trek. Our next destination on this trip is an easy trek to Sarangkot from Naudada and Kaskikot.

On the final stretch of this breathtaking trek, we move to Pame. Following the trek, we move to Pokhara in a scenic drive. And the package ends in Kathmandu.

Australian Base Camp Trek Difficulty level (easy)

Yes, the Australian Base Camp Trek is among the easiest treks in the Annapurna Region. The trip has a gradual climb that most new trekkers can undertake. Furthermore, the max elevation in this trip is 1880 meters.

The walking hours in this trip remain under 8 hours. Likewise, the trails trotted in this trip are well established. The developed infrastructure makes the journey easier to complete.

Best Time for Australian Base Camp Trek

Like most trekking destinations in Nepal, the best time for the Australian Base Camp Trek is spring and autumn. While this trip can be done in other seasons as well, it won’t go as smoothly as it would during fall and spring.

Autumn offers the best possible views of the Himalayan ranges. The weather is pleasant with welcoming temperatures and clear skies. During the post-monsoon season, your journey will be crisp and clear.

Nature lovers will love their Australian Base Camp journey in Spring. You will be welcomed by the rhododendron forest during this season. Likewise, the chances of encountering wildlife become possible. Birdwatching is an offshoot of this journey in spring.

A winter journey in the Australian Base Camp trek is possible. However, unlike the previously mentioned season, you will face significant challenges. These hurdles come in the form of low temperatures, low visibility, unfavorable weather, and more.

Summer is the least recommended time to travel in the Himalayas. With summer, Nepal also welcomes the monsoon. As such, the trails become muddy and slippery. Moreover, during the rainy season, Nepal becomes prone to landslides and mudslides.

So, if you want to enjoy your venture in the Australian Base Camp with the Dhampus and Sarangkot trek, your best bet is either spring or autumn.

If your travel schedule includes camping or if you choose to experience it, a correct campsite will be determined in advance, and everything will be taken care of. If required, we also provide equipment such as a tent, cookware, etc. Check the equipment lists for more information.

Remote areas don't have that many options, but hygienic and well-prepared food is always served. Moreover, most meals are included in the costs during your trek. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!

Follow the detailed route description or itinerary for more information.

Drinking water during the Australian Base Camp Trek

Proper hydration for the Australian Base Camp is necessary for any climber. Thus, water is available at all different stages of the expedition, from lower trekking routes to higher base camps.

The lower areas have local streams and teahouses. Trekkers can refill their water bottles for a fee in teahouses and lodges.

In areas far from civilization, our team has ensured that safe drinking water is always available. They do it by purifying the water through means such as boiling and water purification tablets.

We advise trekkers to drink plenty of water to avoid altitude sickness. Travelers get ample opportunities to replenish their water along the trek.

Proper hydration aids not only in physical performance. It also plays a very important role in acclimatization during the expedition itself.

Time to go there... they need you!

We are just coming back from Nepal and it was an incredible experience. Our guide from Adventure Mission Nepal, Madhav, was wonderful. It's the first time that we have a guide who shared the meals with us, generally they stay amongst themselves (tour guides/drivers). We visited several beautiful places in Kathmandu, and, yes, not all the monuments have been destroyed by the earthquakes. So, there is plenty to visit. However, some other areas have been badly damaged and they NEED the tourists to support the reconstruction. Moreover, they are very nice people. Even though a lot of them lost their house, and basically lost everything, they are still smiling to you and you feel welcome (actually, they are not asking for tips every five minutes like in India...). We distributed some dental supplies in some poor villages and the kids were so happy. Really, we visited many countries and a few of them touched our heart like Nepal. Please, please, just go there, make an extra trip of a few days before or after you visit the Taj Mahal or the Great Wall... For Nepal, tourism is a question of survival.
