Amitabha Monastery - Up to 10% Off - Book Now! Overview

Amitabha Monastery Hike is an interesting and fun one-day trip that connects the cultural tour with the hike in nature.

This begins with a drive to the Swayambhunath Stupa referred to as the Monkey Temple, and within the first few hours of the tour, one is exposed to the religious and architectural beauty of Kathmandu.

Swayambhu is a top religious place with cultural importance and beautiful scenery overlooking the city, making it the best place to start this hike.

Hiking from Swayambhu to Amitabha Monastery takes one through beautiful green hills with occasional views and opportunities to immerse oneself in some deep, quiet moments of calmness.

The level of difficulty is moderate, and it does not pose a serious challenge to hikers, but there is always the chance to appreciate nature.

While walking towards the Amitabha Monastery, the spiritual level rises gradually: the prayer flags and the far-off monotonous singing sounds help to feel calm.

Upon arriving at the Amitabha Monastery, one gets to see the wonderful valley of Kathmandu and the mountains.

The monastery itself is a lovely spiritual place for worship and rejuvenation that is recognized for its serenity and architectural design.

Whether you are interested in spirituality or just looking for a sanctuary in the natural environment, this trek provides you with a much-needed break in Nepal’s most serene location.

Best time for the Amitabha Monastery Hike

The Amitabha Monastery Hike is not seasonal and can be hiked all year round, making it an appropriate choice for anyone who wants a short but satisfying hike.

Nevertheless, the most preferred time to undertake this hike is preferably during the spring (March up to May) and autumn (September up to November) seasons. These months are characterized by relatively high temperatures, sunny days, and blooming plants in the spring or the opposite in the autumn.

Spring offers a warm climate and bright colors for trekking, while autumn provides a cooler climate and a very clear view of the Kathmandu Valley and the far-stretched Himalayas.

However, the hike is also feasible in the winter and monsoon months, but the winter season (December – February) may be cold, particularly in the early morning and evening, while the monsoon season (June – August) might result in rain, which makes the trail slick and sometime the views could be obstructed by fog.

Nevertheless, this trek can be completed at any time of the year, but the best seasons are spring and autumn in regard to weather conditions, stunning landscapes, and visibility.

Difficulty Level of the Amitabha Monastery Hike

In general, the Amitabha Monastery Hike is still a moderate-level hike, and it will not be a problem for most hikers, especially those who have done some hiking before.

The trail is a mixture of gentle slopes with occasional steep gradients, and the overall elevation gain is not very high. The terrain is not very challenging, so the hike does not demand any level of technicality; thus, it can be an excellent destination for those interested in spending a day walking and exploring the outdoors.

Overall, any person with moderately good health can do the route but some measure of fitness will definitely improve the experience.

The trail is very well maintained and there are many spots that provide breaks along the way and opportunities to see some unbelievable panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, which makes the trail enjoyable and very doable for all types of hikers.

Preparation required for the Amitabha Monastery Hike

Before embarking on the Amitabha Monastery Hike, there are some important things one needs to do to make the trip as enjoyable as possible.

First, the hike involves moderate ascending and descending; thus, one should be physically healthy; otherwise, he or she will run out of energy before completing the activity. Cardio exercises, including walking or jogging, will build the necessary stamina required for the hike.

While the hike is relatively easy, it would be more comfortable and enjoyable if you are in good condition.

This hike also requires proper gear. Dress in comfortable, moisture-resistant clothing based on the climate and carry proper footwear for hiking the trail.

For some activities, it might be necessary to wear additional clothing because of fluctuations in the temperature, such as a hat, sunglasses, and other protective accessories against the sun.

A lightweight daypack with such items as water, energy bars, a camera, and a basic first aid kit is advised.

Finally, one needs to be aware of the weather forecasts and be ready for what comes their way. Carrying clothes like a rain jacket or a windbreaker might be helpful when weather conditions turn adverse.

Though the hike is relatively mild, making the right preparations will enable you to grasp the beauty and meaning of the Amitabha Monastery.
