Strenuous Trekking Grade is both moderate and difficult. Even in this grade, treks reach around 5000-5500 meters. You will have to walk generally for 6-7 hours each day. Strenuous treks require good physical condition and acclimatization. If some problems seem to appear, you have to walk down and take some hot drinks or soup ( + rest). You may be affected rapidly if you have high blood pressure, asthma, heart disease or complicated medical conditions. Advise is required from your doctor before starting these kinds of treks.

Itinerary

Arrival on: Kathmandu, Departure from: Kathmandu

Day 1

Arrival in Kathmandu (1300m).

Before starting off your trek, enjoy the natural beauty and mountains of the region through your flight to Kathmandu. On your arrival, you will be welcomed by the representative of Himalayan trekkers and from there you will be taken to a Hotel. You will have ample time to take rest and start your trek afresh the very next day.

Day 2

Flight to Lukla (2,800 m) and trek to Phakding (2,652 m).

Post breakfast, we will be taken to the domestic terminal of Kathmandu airport from where we will catch an early flight to Lukla (2,800m/9,186ft) from where our journey of this trekking expedition will begin. You will be experiencing a thrilling flight of 40 minutes above the majestically beautiful green and snow-capped mountains and next, you will find yourself at the Tenzing-Hillary Airport at Lukla. This part of the journey will make up as the most gorgeous air routes in the world, ending in a twisted landing on a steep hillside encompassed by high mountain peaks.

After we arrive at Lukla, you will be introduced to your crew members and you need to wrap-up with the arrangements and packing that are necessary for the trek. Next, we will commence our trek through the thriving village of Lukla until we reach Phakding. With some short ascends and descends and crossing-by some beautiful monasteries, we will finally reach Phakding. In order to acclimatize with the surroundings, we will have a short hike on this day. However, if your energy permits to indulge yourself in some activities and exploration, you may opt for a side trip to a monastery that is not very far.

Day 3

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3440m).

After having our breakfast, we will be enthusiastic enough, to begin with, the thrilling trek. The trek will be delightful with a few short steep uphill and downhill trails coupled with multiple crossings over the tranquil Dudh Koshi River. You will be amazed at the wonderful view of the Mt. Thamserku (6,608m/21,675ft) from the lovely village of Benkar. Go through the rhododendron forests, experience the magnolia and the giant fir forests, you will be loaded with excitement.

After crossing several bridges, we will reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a protected area at Monjo, we will have to get our trekking permits out at this entrance. A steep descend and a steady walk will bring us to Jorsale, a small village before Namche Bazaar. By taking a refreshing walk along the beautiful river bed, we will step in the Hillary Suspension Bridge, one of the highest bridges. However, the rugged beauty of the will be deep edged in your mind. While climbing towards the Namche Bazaar, you will be blessed to catch a glimpse of Kusum peak, Kwangde Peak, Lhotse, Kangaru peak, Mt. Everest, Tawache and other majestic mountains. After a brief stop at the Chautara, we will reach finally the vibrant and forever busy village of Namche Bazaar.

Day 4

Free & Acclimatization day at Namche.

This day will be set aside for acclimatization. To keep you active, we shall proceed to spend the day hiking to Thame or visiting Khunde. If you want to make the most of the day, we may also spend the day exploring the Namche Bazar. Namche Bazaar is the gateway to the high Himalayas as well as Khumbu and the buzz among the trekkers. It serves as the main center of the Everest region as it is dotted with government offices, shops of different kinds, ATMs, cafes connected with internet, restaurants, bakery and a busy local market that comes alive on every Friday and Saturday. Do some local shopping and have a gala time meeting people from all around the world, Namche is a busy hub filled with locals as well as all kind of travelers.

Next, you will be taken to the Tourist Visitor Center near the Sagarmatha National Park, by our tour guide. A place to learn a lot of things, you will get to know about the first Everest ascenders, interesting knowledge of the Sherpa culture and the blessed wildlife of the Everest region. We will also make a side trip to the Khumjung and reach the popular airstrip of Shyangbouche. One can notice the Everest View Hotel above the airstrip, a deluxe hotel built by genius Japanese minds that offers a great view of the highest mountains on the Earth. However, on this trail, you will awestruck with the beauty of the Khumjung valley overlooked by the snow-capped peaks of Kongde and Thamserku and find the renowned monastery on the sacred peak of Khumbila. The monastery is known for preserving a scalp of the gigantic Yeti’s and thus, we get a chance to delve deep into the lives of mystical creatures. We will also make a stop at Hillary school on this trail. After a hearty lunch and spending some time in Khumjung, we will finally walk down to Namche Bazar.

Day 5

Trek to Phortse Village (3810m).

After enjoying a scrumptious breakfast in Namche, we will begin our trek while enjoying a majestic view of all the sensational views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Apart from experiencing some steep climbs and downs, this trail will offer you some of the most alluring views of the Himalaya and on our journey; we will spot the wildlife of the region from close proximity. Himalayan Thar, pheasant, musk deer, etc are some of the species that will excite you to the core when you will witness their grandeur close enough. Further, the trail will move down to Kyangjuma and will eventually take us to Sansa, a significant trail junction that will lead us to the Everest Base Camp as well as the Gokyo valley. In our way, we will go through the Mongla pass (3975 m), a place that promises to gift you with outstanding views of the Thamserku, Mt. Khumbila, Tawache, and Ama Dablam. An interesting fact is that the Sherpas consider Mt. Khumbila to be a holy mountain, the God of the prosperous Khumbu region. Also, Mt. Khumbila is regarded to be one of the highest Himalayan peaks and it is endowed with all the beauty.

Further, we will be descending to the Dudh Koshi Khola where we have to cross a bridge to resume our trekking. Again we will be taking the route that will take us through the rhododendron forest which serves as a home for the Himalayan wild deer and musk deer. Following the trail, we will reach the walled fields of Phortse; a region just beneath the Cholatse and Tawache. The Phortse village will be a short trek away from this place; the village is an authentic Sherpa village and popular trekking. Finally, we will halt here for the night.

Day 6

Trek to Machermo (4,470m).

We will start this day by retracing our steps on the trail back to Phortse. Being rich in wildlife, we will spot all kinds of species that are common to the mountains, namely mountain goats, musk deer, and pheasants while we make our way through the bridge on the Dudh Koshi River. Also, it will take us through forests, waterfalls and many more bridges and finally we will step in Dole.

On a steady climb through a picturesque ridge, the trek continues through Lhabarma. Apart from offering excellent views of Kantega, Thamserku and Cho Oyu, it will also take us through a charming hamlet of Luza and numerous summer settlements. We will ascend from Luza to be at the Dudh Koshi valley and continue your trail through small hamlets, sandy spurs to finally reach Machermo, the last settlement of Gokyo. The crystal stream flowing down from the Phari Lapche and Kyajo Ri mountains run through the village before it drains all their water into the thundering Dudh Koshi. However, this region holds historical importance as it is said to be the place where the Khumbu people first saw the Yeti in 1974. You will visit the Himalayan Rescue Hospital to attend a lecture on altitude sickness, its precaution, and primary treatment.

Day 7

Trek to Gokyo (4800m).

Our trek continues to the ridge of Chorten where we will enjoy the spectacular view of the valley along with Mt. Thamserku, Kangtega and northern part of the Cho-Oyu (8153m). As we reach beyond the ridge, we will observe that the valley keeps widening as it proceeds through Chorten and after an easy walk reaches Pangka (4480m), a palace where 40 people died due to avalanche. Before commencing our climb to the terminal moraine of Ngozumba Glacier, you will descend to the river bank. Next, we will go through an iron bridge for going across a stream that follows a trail that will take us to a valley after crossing the first lake, Longponga. Here, you will be amazed to witness a stone that safely secured numerous footprints of Lamas. As we move ahead on the trail, we will set your eyes on the mesmerizing second lake, Taboche Tsho. A gorgeous lake beaming in pride with turquoise water, the sight is one of a kind. Further lays the third lake and the two lakes ( Taboche Tsho and the third lake) are linked by a flowing stream. Finally, we get to the village of Gokyo that thrives near the Cho-Oyu Mountain and has a nonpareil scenic beauty as its backdrop. After a warm meal, you will be free to explore the Dudh Pokhari Lake. We will spend the rest of your night at a teahouse in the region.

Day 8

Trek to Gokyo Valley.

This day is solely dedicated for acclimatization but you should be mentally prepared to trudge towards the Goyo Ri to get engaged in some spectacular views of the Everest region if the weather seems suitable. Besides being popular for a spectacular view, Gokyo is also famed for six lakes that are a beauty of their own kind.

Well, you will get the opportunity to witness the beauty of the fourth (Thonak Tsho) and fifth lake (Ngozumba Tsho). The fourth lake is about 3 km north of Gokyo; overlooked by high cliffs and peaks making their presence eminent. Whereas, when we proceed to the fifth lake, we may climb to make our way to the top of the hill for getting a better and unforgettable view of all the celebrated peaks namely Everest, Lhotse, Gyachung Kang, Cho-Oyu, Nuptse and Makalu from the Scoundrel’s Viewpoint. The Cho Oyu Base Camp lies beyond the fifth lake thus, the northern part of the lake offers an amazing view of the world’s biggest glacier, the Ngozumpa glacier and the also base camp. If time and energy permits we may also opt to go to the sixth lake too.

Day 9

Trek to Lungden (4380m)/Marlung (4200m) via Renjola pass (5340m).

We will start off for crossing the Renjola pass at around 8 a.m. on the other side of the lake from Gokyo. The trail mostly comprises of a steep climb and undoubtedly, it will be a lot adventurous. Very few passes in the Everest/Khumbu region is as popular as the Renjola pass. On reaching the pass, we will have to face a little challenge. One needs to drop down by taking the help of a rope and then trudge towards Lungden. Please note that you must be strong in heart and physically fit for trying on such activities. We will cross the gorgeous alpine valley that serves as a trade route to Namche Bazaar for the Tibetan Yak caravans. And the best part? Get mesmerized by the collective view formed by the rocky spires, glaciers and fast-moving clouds on a backdrop of blue sky.

Day 10

Trek to Thame (3800m).

After doing breakfast, we will descend to Thami, to witness magnificent snow peaks. On this trail, you will come across encampments of Tibetan traders and get engaged in an unseen form of lifestyle. Here, we can see Thami Gompa is situated about 150m above the region of Thami, a picture-perfect monastery perched on a quaint hill overlooking the green valley will leave you spellbound. The region where you lay and lama people resided for decades and is also a celebratory spot for the Mani Rimdu festival which is celebrated every year in the mid of May.

Day 11

Trek to Namche Bazaar (3445m)/Jorsalle.

By 7:30 we will complete our breakfast and begin with our downhill trek to Namche Bazaar at 8 am. Spend your afternoon knowing more about the local culture and visit each corner of the trading hub of this beautiful Everest region. Go ahead to get amazed by satisfying your eyes watching the various peaks including Kwangde, Thamserku, Kusum Kangaru, Angole, and glaciers. After relaxing a while, we will continue our trail downhill for an hour to reach a flat land stretched over 30-minutes walk to reach Jorsalle which will be your overnight stop.

Day 12

Trek to Lukla (2800m).

The trek comes to an end on this day with you descending down the path to Lukla. We can celebrate the end of this wonderful trek by sharing beer and delicacies with your crew at the local Sherpa restaurant. Also, spend sometimes with the natives and get some memories with you before bidding the final adieu.

Day 13

Fly back to Kathmandu.

Our day will start with an early breakfast and we will be on the Lukla airstrip. Finally, we will board our flight to Kathmandu. Kathmandu will be your stop for the night. You will be free to explore the city and interact with the locals before you board your flight back home.
