One of the famous routes of the mid-western region, the Dolpo to Phoksundo Lake Trek has become a very popular tourist attraction offering its scenic landscape views, stunning mountains, and hypnotic beauty.

Among the 77 districts of Nepal, Dolpo is the largest in terms of area. The region is also depicted for its unique landscape and exotic culture. Further, the region came into light when its story was portrayed in the movie ‘Caravan’ by Eric Valli. The movie was also nominated in the Oscar and made people all around the world curious about this mystic land, which was closed for foreigners until the 90s.

Phoksundo Lake is an alpine freshwater lake at an elevation of 3611 meters. The area covered by the lake is 1.91 sq miles and the depth of the lake is 145 m. The lake looks more impressive with the reflection of the Kanjiroba mountain range. The lake is a sacred pilgrimage site for Buddhists as well as followers of the Bon religion.

Dolpo to Phoksundo Lake Trek is between easy and difficult trek in terms of trip grade due to the gradual rise in elevation and its remoteness, nevertheless, we always walk before we run!

Parts of the trail are protected areas and come under the Shey-Phoksundo national park. Some common species of wildlife found in this region include  snow leopard, musk deer, blue sheep, great Tibetan sheep, and Himalayan tahr.

This 12 days Phoksundo Trek in Dolpo begins after a flight to Juphal from Nepalgunj and goes around Ringo and other villagers before reaching the Turquoise lake of Phoksundo.
