14 Days Bhutan Trek and Tour is quite an outstanding trip package that offers visitors a unique experience full of surprises. Our trek begins from Drugyel Dzong followed by Shana, Soi Thangthangkha, Jangothang, Lingshi, Shodu, Barshong, Dolam Kencho, and finally Dodena. The trekking trail is filled with beautiful mountains, lush green forests, awe-inspiring landscapes, ancient dzongs, and monasteries.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival in Paro

After a warm and nice breakfast served at the hotel, we will hike up the 4200 steps to the Tiger's Nest, locally known as the Taktsang Monastery hanging on a high cliff at 3120 meters. This monastery has been the identification of Bhutan for a long time because of its religious significance its location. The Mahayana Buddhist believes that the first Dalai Lama, Padmasambhava flew on a back of a tigress to her for Meditation.

While coming down we will have lunch halfway down the hill and continue to Paro.

Day 2

Hike to Taktsang (Tigers' Nest) Monastery

Today, we take a short drive of 17 km to Drugyal Dzong then start trekking to Shana. We follow the trail that gradually goes up through a lush green forest, apple farms, small settlements, and a nice view of the meadows and surrounding hills. After walking for almost 3 hours we reach Gunitsawa which is bordering town with Tibet.

Further walking up for another couple of hours we reach Sharna, our overnight campsite.

Day 3

Drive to Drugyel Dzong & trek to Shana

With a good breakfast, we begin to walk along the Paro River through the lush green forest. Todays' walk is filled with many ascends and descends until we halt at Shana for an overnight stay.

Day 4

Trek to Soi Thangthangkha

After an hour of a walk after we start the trek, we will cross the army camp and walk uphill to reach a hilltop offering the snow-capped mountains on the northern side. 

We reach the camp of yak herders after a few ups and downs. We take our lunch at the camp and continue the walk until we reach our camping site. Jangothang from where the famous Mt. Jumolhari, as well as the Jichu Drake peak, are seen from a nearby distance.

Day 5

Trek to Jangothang (4040 m)

Soon after breakfast, we start climbing up to a ridge from where we can witness the Mount Chomolhari standing proudly.

After spending a short time here we go down for a while and walk in the flat land for some time before climbing up the Ngye La pass (4,700m), one of the highest points of the trip. After a brief rest at the pass, we descend continuously until reaching our campsite at Lingshi for an overnight stay.

Day 6

Trek to Lingshi

Our day starts with a short climb towards a Chorten on a hilltop. From here we further walk down to the Mo Chhu valley and then on the east of a barren valley and make a short climb up to the other end of the Mo Chhu.

The trail further goes up for a couple of hours until reaching the highest point of the trek Yeli La pass (4,820m). Mountain peaks such as Jumolhari, Gangchen Ta, Tshering Gang, and Masang Gang are visible from the top of the pass.

We gradually go down another 600m and stop at our campsite at Shodu for an overnight stay.

Day 7

Trek to Shodu

Slightly after breakfast, we start the day with a gentle walk along the Thimpu River through the dense woods of Pine trees.

Our trip to Barshong is filled with interesting settlements, Chortens, and farms en route.

Day 8

Trek to Barshong

We follow the trail descending through a lush rhododendron, birch, and conifer forest. Then the trail drops until we reach the Thimpu Chu River. 

Another one hour of a climb through the hilly trail takes us to our campsite at Dolam Kencho. An occasional view of the mountains makes this day exciting.

Day 9

Trek to Dolam Kencho

After a good breakfast, we will gradually descend to Dodena , where we hop into the vehicle taking us to Thimpu. 

This is the last day of the trek. In the evening relax at Thimpu.

Day 10

Trek to Dodena & drive to Thimpu

After breakfast, you will have guided sightseeing of Thimpu. You will explore the King’s Memorial Chorten, Nunnery Temple, Changgangkha Monastery, Majestic Thimphu Dzong, etc. Besides that, we also go to the Central zoo to see the animals over there and among them the Takin, a goat-antelope is a major attraction as it is the national animal of Bhutan.

In the afternoon we visit the Weekend market that is famous for all kinds of local products ranging from handicrafts to vegetables. You can also visit the radio tower on a hilltop, which offers a panoramic view of Thimpu city.

Day 11

Thimpu sightseeing

We start the day in the morning with a drive to Punakha via Dochu La (3,100m). 

We will make a brief visit to the fertility temple known as Chimi Lhakhang. You can receive blessings of fertility with a phallus (Symbolic representation of male sexual organ) from the Lama.

Upon arrival at Punakha, we will have lunch and visit the Punakha Zhong in the evening.

Day 12

Drive to Punakha & explore

Today, you will have a short scenic drive to Paro from Punakha.

In Paro, you will be exploring the National Museum, many shrines like Drugyel Dzong, Kyichi Lhakhang, Rinpung Dzong, and farmhouse by experiencing the rural culture and lifestyle of farmers.

Generally, in cities like Paro, Thimpu, and Punakha we arrange basic three-star facilities. If available, you can opt for a more budget-friendly option or upgrade to a more luxurious hotel by paying a little extra. 

Although all the places might not have all the modern facilities, we will make sure to arrange safe and comfortable accommodation. In general, hygienic and safe tea houses/local lodges/ home-stays with all the basic facilities are arranged. But you can, if possible, personalize according to your preference. 

If your itinerary includes camping or you choose to experience camping during your travel, a proper camping-site will be pre-decided. If required, we also provide the basic equipment which is refundable. Please check the Gear-List and Requirement List for more information.

Meals

All meals in Bhutan are included within the evident cost. However, if you want to eat your meals other than at your hotel or local restaurant, you will have to pay the additional amount.

In more remote areas, usually, there are not many options. But you can always find hygienic and well-prepared food. We can help you make changes according to your preference and budget, but only if choices are available!
