Lhasa - EBC - Lhasa Tour 13 days
This 12 night’s trip in Tibet is an amalgam of natural and cultural heritages of Tibet. The major attractions of this 2 week trip in Tibet are Mt. Everest Base Camp and Rongphu Monastery. We will start our journey by flying to Lhasa from Kathmandu and explore the natural and cultural wonders of Lhasa, Shigatse and Gyantse. The view of the Everest from the Tibetan side is a unique experience as you can drive as near as 4 Km to the Everest base camp, the starting point of the climb to the summit of the highest peak. The view is also very close from this side.
Day 01: Arrive Kathmandu
Arrive at Kathmandu after a scenic flight over the mountains. Meet the representative of Adventure Mission Nepal Treks & Expedition (AMN) and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02: Explore the city and prepare for the flight to Tibet tomorrow.
You can spend this day exploring some of the World heritage sites in Kathmandu valley for some time and prepare for the trip to Tibet that starts tomorrow.
Day 03: Fly from Kathmandu and Arrive Gongar Airport. Upon arrival transfer to Lhasa.
After a 2 and half hours flight we will arrive in Gongar Airport and half an hour drive from there we will reach Lhasa
Day 04: Sightseeing of Lhasa including Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street
After breakfast we will visit the Potala palace, the Palace of the Dalai Lama. This architectural masterpiece is the symbol of unity of the Tibetans. This palace was built by King Soongtsan Gampo, who was married to Princess Wen Cheng Tang in 641 A.D. It has got 999 houses built on Hongshan Hill with a red building on top. It is one of the grandest Palaces in the world till date.
After lunch we will drive towards the Jokhang Temple, the most scared temple for Tibetan Buddhists. After spending some time at the Jokhang temple we will walk through the Barkhor Street, a traditional old street in Lhasa.
Day 05: Full day Sightseeing of Lhasa covering Norbulingka, Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery
We will start the sightseeing today from Norbulingka - the summer palace of the Dalai Lama, located along the Kyichu River and two kilometers west of the Potala Palace. This Palace has a huge garden covering 360,000 square meters, making it the biggest manmade garden in Tibet. It has got 374 rooms. The second site is Drepung Monastery, made by Chojey Tashi Palden in the 14th Century. It had four departments, of which Loseling, or "The Hermitage of the Radiant Mind," was the largest, housing more than three quarters of Drepung's ten to fifteen thousand monks. Now it is one of Tibet’s premier monastic educational institutions
The last site for today is Sera Monastery, built in 1419; this grand Monastery was home to more than 5,000 monks and five monastic colleges. Although much less active now, with only several hundred monks currently in residence, one of the most interesting times to visit the monastery is in the afternoon when monks, after finishing their morning scripture classes, can be seen debating in the courtyard.
Day 06: Drive to Gyantse (3950m)
We will make a early morning visit to the Tashilumpo Monastery and the market of Bazaar .We will drive further to Gyantse, a couple of hours drive In the 15th century it served as the capital of a small Kingdom. Kumbum Chorten a 14th century monument is a place worth visiting here.
Day 07: Drive to Xigatse. (3900m.)
The program starts today after we visit Khumbum Stupa & Palkor Monastery. After completing the sightseeing of the Gyantse we will drive towards Xigatse, 90 Km from Gyantse and about 2 hours of drive. After check in at hotel and a brief rest we will visit the free Tibetan Market and the Tashilumpo Monastery
Day 08: Drive to Xegar. (4040m.)
We have a long drive of 245 Km today from Xigatse to Xegar. The Total duration of drive is 8 hours before we reach the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 09: Drive to Dza Rongphu (4920m.)
We will start driving towards Dza Rongphu village today which is 60 Km away from Xegar and prepare for the excursion to the highlight of the trip, Everest base camp on the Tibetan side.
Day 10: Hike to Everest base camp. (5090m.)
We will hike for around 2 hours from Rongbuk Monastery to reach the northern base camp of the highest peak Mount Everest a.k.a Qomolongma in Tibetan. We will explore the area, take pictures of the highest peak, and visit the Ronghu Glacier and return to Rongphu before sunset.
Day 11: Drive to Shakya Monastery. (3900M.)-160km
The sunrise over Everest will wake us up and we will start driving to the Shakya Monastery which was built in the 1073 A.D by Gongjue Jiebu, to spread his esoteric theory of Buddhism in the whole world.This monastery got the name Shakya as it was built on the chalky hill and Shakya means chalky earth in Tibetan. Overnight at Shakya Monastery.
Day 12: Drive to Lhasa via Xigatse.
We will drive for around 7 hours (250 Km) to reach Lhasa for overnight. We will not follow the same route we used while coming.
Day 13: Depart Kathmandu to reach another destination or fly back home with memories of the trek.
You can depart from Kathmandu to your home country or extend the trip and head for another trip within or outside Nepal.
