What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in China?

You can obtain the Chinese visa from your country or apply here from the Chinese Ambasssy of Nepal with the assistance of AMN staff.

Do I need a passport and visa?

A passport with a minimum validity of 6 months is required for the processing of visa for China and then the permit for Tibet. You are not eligible to enter Tibet only with a Chinese visa. There is a separate procedure for Tibet permit and you can send your copy of passport before arrival so that AMN can process your visa.

Do I need to get immunizations?

If you are arriving from Yellow fever infected zone in Africa then you need a health certificate otherwise no special immunization is required. But consulting your physician before travelling to Tibet is what we suggest.  

Some recommended immunization include-

  • Tetanus & Diphtheria: You should have been immunized as a kid but these shots require a booster every 10 years.
  • Hepatitis A: precaution for food and water borne disease.
  • Hepatitis B:  This is a blood- or semen-borne disease that you are at risk of contracting if you have sex, have a blood transfusion, or come into contact with infected needles (possibly in a hospital). Whether to get immunized is your call.

What ability level do I really need to for trip to Tibet?

Travelling to Tibet itself is an adventure since it is the highest place on earth. The cultural tours are not very demanding but if you are doing trekking in Tibet we recommend you to prepare yourself and do plenty of exercise before arriving to Tibet. Treks in Tibet are rated as challenging. 

What is included in the trip price?

The cost AMN gives you for the trip in Tibet includes twin sharing accommodation, Meal depends on the plan you choose, local transportation, group camping equipment if required as mentioned in the program, some alternative activities and every specific things promised to you. Things like sleeping bags, jackets, hiking boots can be arranged on request on hire or for purchase.

How is the food in China and Tibet?

Besides the local Tibetan food the Chinese food in Tibet is a delight and most of the restaurants and hotels in towns serve western food as well. If you are trekking then the staff will provide you hygienic food and you can participate yourself in the making of food you eat.
