Manaslu Circuit Trek

Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world and this trek goes around this mountain nicknamed as Killer Mountain because of the high casualty rate while climbing the summit. The avalanche and strong wind makes it a very difficult mountain to scale.  The trek is not as difficult as the summit climb but is very exciting and adventurous and can be rated as fairly challenging. This trek start from the Gorkha District but you can choose among two routes to conclude it. We follow the same route till the Budi Gandaki River which goes around the Manaslu peak [8156m.] going through the Larkya pass at 5100 meter and finally emerges onto the Marshyangdi river valley along the main trail of Annapurna circuit.   2. Route 1

    Day 1 Arrive Kathmandu
    Arrive at Kathmandu after a scenic flight over the mountains. Meet the representative of Adventure Mission Nepal Treks & Expedition (AMN) and transfer to Hotel.

    Day 2 explore the city and prepare for the trek.
    You can spend this day exploring some of the World heritage sites in Kathmandu valley for some time and prepare for the trek in the afternoon.

    Day 03: Drive to Arughat Bazaar.
    We will take 7 hours drive from Kathmandu and reach Arughat for overnight at tented camp.

    Day 04: Trek to Sundi Khola.
    We will start after breakfast crossing the Budi Gandaki, and take short climb to Kyoropani and descend till the Sundi Khola. It won’t be a long walk today so we will walk slowly and if you wish you can take time to swim in the river.

    Day 05: Trek to Maccha Khola.
    We will walk past small settlements and hill until we reach a widening of the valley, from where on the opposite side you can see a big tributary of Budi Gandaki meeting each other. Further walking ahead we will reach Lapbesi. We will continue uphill for couple of hours and reach Machha Khola for overnight camping.

    Day 06: Trek to Jagat.
    Today we will walk from Machha Khola to Jagat for 7 hours. The trail is a bit narrow in some places and is challenging as well. After a short walk we will reach a small forest and cross it to reach Doban. Another couple of hours from Doban take us to the fields of Jagat where we will set the camps for overnight stay.

    Day 07: Trek to Deng
    We will start the walk today morning by descending down many steps to the river from where we will start climbing a terraced hill to Aguilera. The hill of Aguilera offers impressive view of the Sringi Himal (7187m).  After going a bit ahead the path splits, with the right-hand branch heading off towards the Ganesh Himal while crossing the river at Gata Khola. We will walk upstream through the gorge and high cliffs. After walking for 7 hours we reach the village of Deng for overnight.

    Day 08: Trek to Dhap.
    We will start walking the most impressive valley today. We will walk past the village of lama where we can see numerous Mani walks. After walking for around 4 hours we reach the village of Dhap for overnight camping. There's a perceptible change in the climate and culture.

    Day 09: Trek to Lho village
    Today most of the walk will be through the alpine territory and increasing mountain views crossing the buri Gandaki we pass the permitting place. We will continue gently up until we reach the Tibetan village of Sho, 3000m from sea level. We get to see Manaslu North and then of Manaslu from this beautiful village. After walking for around one hour from Sho, we reach Lho, a beautiful village at 3100 m, where we can see lots of Mani walls, monasteries and small chortens.

    Day 10: Trek to Sama Gaun.
    Leaving the village, we follow the right bank of the river, with views of Peak 29 ahead. As we continue on the main trail, we soon reach the fields of Sama Gaon, 3500m for overnight camping.

    Day 11: Rest day.
    Today is a free day for rest so that you get acclimatized. You can explore and walk around the village in the afternoon for some time.

    Day 12: Trek to Larkya Lodge (Dharmasala)
    During the walk today you will find yourself surrounded by mountains, especially the view of Manaslu, the killer mountain is very impressive. After crossing to the east bank of the river, we reach the last permanent settlement in the valley, which is called Sumdu. We come to the ruins of an abandoned village, known as Larkya Bazaar. Presumably this village thrived as a trading point, with Tibet lying over the Gya La. The commerce seems to have dried up leading to the migration of the settlers. Nearing the Larkya Glacier, we reach a lodge at 4450m, which has been built to serve the travelers crossing the Larkya La.

    Day 13: Trek to Tanbuche.
    We will walk uphill for half an hour to reach the north side of the Larkya Glaciers. This spot offers impressive view of the Cho Danda and Larkya Peak. We walk across glacier, descend gradually for sometime, which gets steeper and steeper as you go down the pass. From the pass, there are outstanding views of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kanggaru and the huge Annapurna II. Initially, there is a steep descent over snow and then scree, to reach the ablation valley trail to Larcia Kharka. A further on, a moraine ridge path leads to Tanbuche 3900m.

    Day 14: Trek to Karche.
    We will cross the fields of pasture and start descending the Burdin Khola. Manaslu to the south-east and Annapurna II to the south-west look very impressive as we reach a ridge. We will follow a narrow trail into a rhododendron forests and follow a trail through a narrow valley until we reach the Karche (2785 m) for overnight stay.

    Day 15: Trek to Bagarchhap
    Today we will join the Annapurna Circuit trail. We will walk through the Karche La pass, and can see ahead a green and heavily forested valley, dropping down to the distant Marshyangdi River. We arrive at Bagarchhap, a Tibetan village with prayer flags where we stay overnight at tented camp.

    Day 16: Trek to Chame.
    After breakfast we will start walking through forests of pine and oakand pass through Dhanakyu. When walking past the steep incline we will continue through the forest of rhododendron to Ratamron. After walking couple of hours through the forest area we will reach the hamlet of Kotho from where we can look straight up at nearby Annapurna II - a sight convincing us that we are deep in the Himalayan Mountains. Walking for fifteen more minutes we will come across a fir and pine forest, walk through it and reach Chame, or overnight destination.

    Day 17 Trek to Pisang [3190m]
    We wake up with the sunrise over the Lamjung Himal [6893m] and head towards Pisang out overnight destination for today. We will walk through the barley fields, mountain passes, apple orchards and small settlements until the pristine hamlet of Bratang appear.  We will follow the trail further with splendid views of Annapurna II for 3 hours and arrive at the village of Pisang.

    Day 18 Trek to Manang
    We will observe the beautiful view of Manang valley and the Tilicho peak (7132m) as we descend through Manang's airstrip.  After walking for some time we reach from where we can see the north-east face of Annapurna III. We will further walk ahead through the Sabje Khola Valley from where you can witness the Annapurna IV, which stands 7525m. Further on, we cross a wooden bridge, as the Marshyangdi Khola gushes below us after which we enter the village of Mungji. We continue downwards until we reach Manang with the panoramic view of Annapurna II, Annapurna III, Annapurna IV, Gangapurna [7455m] and Tilicho Peak [7134m] in the background of the trail.

    Day 19 Trek to Thorung Phedi [4500m]
    Leaving Letdar, we climb gradually to a ridge before descending to the headwaters of the Marshyangdi and crossing via a covered wooden bridge. After a short ascent up the mountain path on the right bank, we follow a narrow trail across an unstable steep slope and then descend to Thorung Phedi.

    Day 20 Trek to Muktinath [3800m]
    Today is the most exciting day of the trek as we will be crossing the Thorung La [5416m], the highest mountain pass.  We will start early for the climb and the following descend. The trail is very steep but well defined and easy to track as it has been used by the villagers since hundreds of years. The walk is uphill and hard for next four hours until we reach the place with prayer flags and a small stupa/chorten.  From the top we can see the majestic snow capped mountains, hills of mustang and the valley of Kaligandaki. After a brief rest we start descending downwards to Muktinath (3800m).We will walk along the Jhong Khola Valley to Muktinath, a popular pilgrimage in the Himalayan region for both Hindus and Buddhist.

    Day 21 Trek to Jomsom [2713m]
    After the short descend in the morning you will find yourself in Jharkot and Khingar, where there are beautiful monasteries which give you the opportunity to witness the interrelation and similarity of Tibet to this area. The view of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri is splendid throughout the trail.  We will walk past Kagbeni to reach Jomsom along the bank of kali Gandaki River. We can spend some time exploring the headquarter of the mustang district, Jomsom.

    Day 22 Flight to Kathmandu via Pokhara
    We will take an early morning flight to Pokhara and fly back to Kathmandu on a afternoon flight from Pokhara.

    Day 23 Depart Kathmandu to reach another destination or fly back home with memories of the trek.
    You can depart from Kathmandu to your home country or extend the trip and head for another trip within or outside Nepal

    Route 2

    Today we will ascend for 5 hours to reach Jagat from Dharapani. The trail is a bit narrow in some places and is challenging as well. After a short walk we will reach a small forest and cross it to reach Doban. Another couple of hours from Doban take us to the fields of Jagat where we will set the camps for overnight stay.

    Day 18: Trek to Bahundanda.
    Bahundanda became very famous after John wood wrote a book ‘Microsoft to Bahundanda’. We will walk for 6 hours to reach Bahundanda from Jagat after walking through dense forest and terraced farms.

    Day 19: Trek to Bhulbule.
    We descend to Ngadi and walk further to Bhulbule through the trail in-between Rice and paddy fields and beautiful landscape.  Overnight camping at Bhulbule.

    Day 20: Trek to Beshisahar.
    Today the walk is short and lasts for only 3 hours until we reach Beshisahar.

    Day 21: DRIVE TO KATHMANDU
    We will take a bus ride of 7 hours to reach Kathmandu and rest and relax in the evening.

    Day 22: Depart Kathmandu to reach another destination or fly back home with memories of the trek.
    You can depart from Kathmandu to your home country or extend the trip and head for another trip within or outside Nepal
