Leh - Ladakh Tour 16 days

Ladakh s a famous trekking region of India. It connects the Mainland India with the Himalayas. This region lies between the Karakorum and the Himalayas in the northern most part of India. Although this is a very beautiful region and considered one of the best trekking region in India it is least explored by the tourist and trekkers. It is believed that Buddhism entered into Tibet from the high passes of Ladakh from India and took the present form. Leh is the capital of Ladakh. There is a big influence of Buddhism in this area which is justified by number of Buddhist monasteries and prayer flags you see in the settlements and villages. This 16 day trip involves lot of driving and takes you to some of the most beautiful lakes in the transhimalayan region of Ladakh.

Day 01: Arrival at Delhi and explore Delhi.
Day 02: Fly to Leh (3520m) from Delhi.

Day 06: Drive to Alchi: 200 Km, 5-6 hours

Itineraty in details

Day 01: Arrival at Delhi and explore Delhi.
The representative from Adventure Mission Nepal’s India agency will pick you up from the airport. After a brief rest you will go for an introductory walk around the old streets of Delhi.

Day 02: Fly to Leh (3520m) from Delhi.
We will reach Leh after a flight of little more than an hour. We will rest at the hotel and acclimatize by taking a short walk around the Leh Market and the Peace pagoda.

Day 03: Leh to Nubra Valley (5,578 m)
We will start the drive of 120 Km to the Nubra Valley via Khardungla, the road at the highest altitude. In the afternoon we will explore the Deskit village and take a camel safari.

Day 04: Drive back to Leh.
After a warm breakfast served at the hotel we will start the drive back to Leh from Nubra Valley. During the drive back we will also visit the Shey, Thikshey and Leh Palace.

Day 05: Drive to Pangong Lake (4420 m) 150 Km, 4-5 hours
We head towards the Pangong Lake via Changla Pass situated at 17,350 ft. the after driving for around 5 hours we arrive at Pangong, largest salt water lake in the world, in the Border with China. The Pangong Lake is famous for its changing colors.

Day 06: Drive to Alchi: 200 Km, 5-6 hours
The drive to Alchi today starts after the breakfast and we drive for around 6 hours with a lunch break on the way. We will make a brief stop at the interesting places on the way such as the Basgo Palace, Liker Monastery, Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and Magnetic Hill. We will arrive n Alchi by late afternoon and explore the surrounding if we have enough time otherwise we will visit the surrounding next morning.

Day 07: Drive to Kargil. 160 Km, 5-6 hours
We have a 160 km long drive to Kargil from Alchi. Enroute we will visit the famous landmarks such as Moon Landscape, Lamayuru (oldest monastery in Ladakh) and Giant Maitreya Buddha at Mulbekh. Kargil used to be an important trade point in the past centuries between central Asia and South Asia. We will explore the old town of Kargil in the evening.

Day 08: Drive to Padum: 250 Km, 7-8 hours
We start the day earlier than the previous days as we have almost 250km of driving through the mountainous road to Padum (Zanskar). On the way, we can admire the magnificent view of Nun Kun Peak and Dran Drung Glacier and visit Rangdum Monastery. We reach Padum by evening and spend the night.

Day 09: Full day around Padum
We will spend the day around Padum and visit Karsha, Stongdey and Sani then get back to Padum by evening.

Day 10: Drive back to Kargil: 250 Km, 7-8 hours
We will drive back to Kargil via the same route we followed to arrive at Padum.

Day 11: Drive back to Leh: 230 Km

Day 12: Drive to Tsomoriri Lake via Chumthang. 240 Km, 7-8 hours
An 8 hours drive from Leh takes us to Tsomoriri. We will pass the Chumthang hot spring, which lies on the bank of the Indus River. Explore the lake and its surrounding in the evening.

Day 13: Drive to Sumdo to Leh: 235 Km
We will start the day late and drive towards Leh. We will drive past Puga (Sulphur Mine), Tsokar Lake, Tanglang La Pass (17,585ft) and Rumtse. We will also make ea brief stop at Hemis Monastery

Day 14: Free day at Leh.

Day 15: Fly back to Delhi

Day 16: Final departure from India or extend your trip to Nepal, Tibet or Bhutan.
